I am new to Cisco Nexus IOS Upgrade . Kindly suggest me how to upgrade 6.2(20) to 7.3(3)D1(1) through Cold boot

NEXUS7000CSW01# show boot

Current Boot Variables:

sup-1
kickstart variable = bootflash:/n7000-s2-kickstart.7.3.3.D1.1.bin
system variable = bootflash:/n7000-s2-dk9.7.3.3.D1.1.bin
sup-2
kickstart variable = bootflash:/n7000-s2-kickstart.7.3.3.D1.1.bin
system variable = bootflash:/n7000-s2-dk9.7.3.3.D1.1.bin
No module boot variable set

Boot Variables on next reload:

sup-1
kickstart variable = bootflash:/n7000-s2-kickstart.6.2.20.bin
system variable = bootflash:/n7000-s2-dk9.6.2.20.bin
sup-2
kickstart variable = bootflash:/n7000-s2-kickstart.6.2.20.bin
system variable = bootflash:/n7000-s2-dk9.6.2.20.bin
No module boot variable set

Why Boot Variables on next reload showing image 6.2.20 ??

Should i use reload command ??

what type of backup should i taken ?? i only used #copy running config TFTF://1.1.1.1 as backup configuration.

what precaution i have to taken before upgrdading IOS .

Look at the upgrade path in the below document, if you like to back up config yes, you need to take running config,
