Nexus FEX Configuration

I'm replacing two Nexus 5010's with Nexus 5672's. I have 4 2248 FEX's connected to these parent switches currently. When I replace the parent switch, will the FEX's lose all of their port configuration? I can copy and paste everything back in, but if there is an easier way, i'd prefer that.

Thanks,

Bobby

Hi

Yes it will be lost , all Fex configuration is contained on the 5k switches so you will need to transfer it over , the 2ks are dumb and don't hold any data at all , its all pushed even the software from the 5ks to the 2ks

Thanks Mark for the quick reply.

Mark,

I'm reading that I can preprovision my FEX's so that I can preconfigure the interfaces (i.e., e102/1/X) ahead of time. Is this what "preprovisioning" means?

Thanks.

personally I haven't tried it but looks fairly basic to setup looking at the the doc below, that would be a way of storing your config too on the 5k for fexes ,you could copy running config to USB in .cfg or txt file and then move it to the other new 5k in and try and copy usb1:....... to startup-config , but haven't tested it so cant say it will work for sure and take all the config , but if the new 5K is not production worth a shot
