Hi
I have been tasked to upgrade the nexus 5596 from version 5.2(1)N1(3) to 7.0(7) N1 and wanted to know if this would be a straight upgrade from this version ?
Also, is there any good documentation that explain the upgrade process please.
Many thanks

Try see if you can do an ISSU upgrade sometime there compatabile and you can do without any interruption , usually I find though on 7s and 5s that there always nearly some impactful part of the upgrade so I would always have a window available
This is a good doc , I would read it right through , because your on such an early version you may have to jump to an intermediate version first in 6 to go right to 7 from 5 in issu

Non vendor doc but good example non issu

Hi Khashmi,
In Nexus there are two methods to upgrade the NX-OS.
1. ISSU
2. Old method direct upgrade (which is Disruptive)
If you choose first one ISSU then there is no direct upgrade from 5.2 to 7.0 & you have to go by intermediate images.
&
If you choose second one then you can directly upgrade to 7.0 where some config loss may happen. Always take backup before going to direct upgrade.
Also below command can show you is the upgrade is disruptive/non-disruptive and the reason why.
# show install all impact kickstart bootflash:n5000-uk9-kickstart.7.0.7.N1.1.bin system bootflash:n5000-uk9.7.0.7.N1.1.bin
Please check below release note, where suggested to "Possibility of ISSU failure if you are upgrading to Cisco NX-OS release 7.0(6)N1(1) or earlier when multi-step ISSU is performed. For multi-step ISSU, it is recommended to upgrade directly to Cisco NX-OS Release 7.0(7)N1(1) or 7.0(8)N1(1). See CSCuw78727 for details".

Now the 7.0.7.N1.1 is little bit old which release on 2015, will suggest to go latest one & Cisco recommended image.
