No counter on Nexus 7K when enter command "Show interace vlan XXX "

Hi all,

There is no counter on interface vlan 999 on nexus 7K.

Is there have some workarounds to fix this ?

As far as I know on Catalyst 6500 or 4500 there is a counters command under interface Vlan, does nexus 7000 have some function?

Vlan999 is up, line protocol is up, autostate enabled
Hardware is EtherSVI, address is  e8ed.f324.4342
  Internet Address is 192.168.200.118/30
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1000000 Kbit, DLY 10 usec,
   reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
  Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set
  Keepalive not supported
  ARP type: ARPA
Last clearing of "show interface" counters never
  60 seconds input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
  60 seconds output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
  Load-Interval #2: 5 minute (300 seconds)
input rate 0 bps, 0 pps; output rate 0 bps, 0 pps
  L3 Switched:
    input: 0 pkts, 0 bytes - output: 0 pkts, 0 bytes
  L3 in Switched:
    ucast: 0 pkts, 0 bytes - mcast: 0 pkts, 0 bytes
  L3 out Switched:
    ucast: 0 pkts, 0 bytes - mcast: 0 pkts, 0 bytes

Hello Hele

I think F2e card do support SVI Counters but then i think the VDC has to be just F2e only. SVI statistics capability is F2e-only.

Thanks

Hello

Could you please share the NxOS verison that you are using. Also, can you share the output of "show interface vlan 999 counters"

Thanks,

Hi Vinit,

Thank you for your response.

I am sure there are many packets received on VLAN999 for internet access.

Thanks for the information. Could you please confirm if the VDC in which you have this SVI is configured as F2e. If thats the case, then this is an expected behavior.

Please capture the below logs to confirm the same.

Hi Vinit,

Yes, I am using F2E card for SVI and no M card in chassis.

I had read the reference document, I think it talk about the M card and F2E card in same VDC.

Hello,

that doc also talks about the VDC type being F2, F2e in which case it will disable the capability of SVI statistics.

Hope this explains the cause of the behavior.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi Vinit,

Do you talked about the below?

F2,F2e

F2e

Yes

Enables F2e-only capabilities like SVI statistics.

You will lose the F2,F2e configuration during the rebinding of the interface. F2 configuration loss should not have much impact because F2 ports are not part of the new VDC.

I don`t  change the VDC module-type from old to new, it also impact VDC which is using F2E for initiation ?

Could you please share the show module output from the Nexus.

Thanks
--Vinit

Below is a more specific CCO document specifying that F2 modules do not support per vlan statistics:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/6_x/nx-os/release/notes/61_nx-os_release_note.html#pgfId-608434

The VDC 2 is F2 F2e in which case

F2e

F2,F2e

Yes

Disables F2e-only capabilities like SVI statistics.

You will lose only the F2e configuration.

Hope this clarifies

Thanks
--Vinit

One thing i wanted to know is during the VDC creation, did you configure "rebind interfaces" comamnd. To be more precise, how did you configure the VDC id 2.

Thanks

Hi Vinit,

I only used "module-type" command to specifying the F2 and f2e when create VDC 2.

The output "show module" is below:

I found a release note for NX-OS 6.2

SVI Statistics on an F2 Series Module

F2 Series I/O modules do not support per-VLAN statistics. Therefore, the show interface command will not display per-VLAN Rx/Tx counters or statistics for switch virtual interfaces (SVIs).

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/6_x/nx-os/release/notes/62_nx-os_release_note.html#pgfId-813735

May be here is the thing, F2 and F2E do not support SVI statistics even I do not have a M card in chassis.

Hello Hele

I think F2e card do support SVI Counters but then i think the VDC has to be just F2e only. SVI statistics capability is F2e-only.

Thanks

Hi Vinit,

Thank you for your patient explaining.

I think you are right, F2 do not support SVI statistics but F2E can.

So I need  to specify module-type from f2 f2e to f2e only.

Thanks,

Let me know how it goes.

And, do mark the question as answered if you have all ur queries answered.
