Notification of a 2960S switch down in stack

We have several 2960S stacks in our enterprise.  What are some ways to be notified if one of the stack members fail?

I noticed today switch 2 of a 3 switch stack failed.  I only knew of the failure after users on switch 2 complained.

You need a monitoring and alerting system.

thanks for the reponse, I do have SolarWinds Toolset, and use Network Monitor, but it just tells me when the managemnet ip in not pingable.

Than you probably want to monitor the stack ports.
