NTP environment

Hello all

My boss has asked med to come up with a suggestion for implementing NTP in our network. We are a large public organisation with 2 large (VMware) datacenters and around 800 locations.

What would be a proper way to implement NTP? Is a dedicated (Vmware) internal NTP server recomendable? how many? would it be possible for a cisco switch to act as the primary NTP server peering with other cisco switches?

How have you guys in this forum implemented NTP in your networks at your workplaces? ? ?

Thanks a lot for any advice ! ! !

Redundant NTP servers are always a good idea. We have three and they are all Linux based. All of our devices pull NTP directly from them. I don't believe that a switch can be an NTP source, but routers sure can. If possible you should get your time from a secure source.

Hope that helps and post if you have any further questions.
