Hi

Julie,

First thing first I am not aware that the ping drops happen two vtp domain problem. Start your troubleshooting in a layered approach. (Layer 1 - 3)

Lets analyze the issue:

cat6500-A -----TRUNK---- cat6500-B

Few things to check:

1- Check the trunk links and make sure the vlans are allowed.

2- Check the intervlan configuration if you are trying to ping the devices between the vlans?

3- Kindly check if Switch cat6500-A  is able to reach all the end stations of cat6500-B? this will give you a brief idea on whats happening.

4 CAn you ping the devices between each other  in same and different vlans on cat6500-A ?

5- Can you post the config from both the switches?

Gonna need some more details to help here. Can you provide show vtp summary from both switches, the configuration of the trunk and VLAN interface configurations if applicable.

Then get the following from both switches -

- show span vlan

- Can you resolve arp for the host that is failing on 6500-B?

- show ip arp from host on A and host on B

If you have an SVI try pinging from the 6500 to the host in question. This will let us know if you have a problem with broadcast or unicast.

Thanks,

Dale
