OSPFv3 loopback

Hi folks,

If I explicitly configured a "router ID" on a router running OSPFv3. Is it still necessary to configure a loopback interface? What happens if I do not have a loopback interface? Would OSPFv3 not operate?

Another question on loopback interface, I can use it to ping the router from a remote network? Or can only be used locally? Thank you.

You don't have to have a loopback interface.  Check out this example:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/ip-version-6-ipv6/112100-ospfv3-config-guide.html

If the loopback interfaces are in the routing table you should be able to ping them from anywhere.
