Hi Network engineers,
We have a cisco catalyst 4500 switch and we have a network printer attached to it .when i ping the network printer from my lan pc ,i am getting packet drops. So i check the switch interface i was shocked to see there are so many unusal things such as runts ,CRC erros. So what will be the problem and how to clear the packet drop.
For your ref i pasted the output below
Cisco-4500#sh int gi 7/17
GigabitEthernet7/17 is up, line protocol is up (connected)
Hardware is Gigabit Ethernet Port, address is d0d0.fdf0.d960 (bia d0d0.fdf0.d960)
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 100000 Kbit, DLY 100 usec,
reliability 230/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set
Keepalive set (10 sec)
Full-duplex, 100Mb/s, link type is auto, media type is 10/100/1000-TX
input flow-control is off, output flow-control is off
ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00
Last input never, output never, output hang never
Last clearing of "show interface" counters never
Input queue: 0/2000/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0
Queueing strategy: fifo
Output queue: 0/40 (size/max)
5 minute input rate 2000 bits/sec, 1 packets/sec
5 minute output rate 7000 bits/sec, 10 packets/sec
225071 packets input, 31625073 bytes, 0 no buffer
Received 15618 broadcasts (15175 multicasts)
288639 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles
341041 input errors, 52402 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored
0 input packets with dribble condition detected
8966289 packets output, 1304453274 bytes, 0 underruns
0 output errors, 24928 collisions, 0 interface resets
0 babbles, 0 late collision, 0 deferred
0 lost carrier, 0 no carrier
0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out

Realibility is 230/255... change the cable... see crc..

This show sthat your cable is faulty. Please change it and check again.

Either cable or you have a speed/duplex mismatch between the printer and the switch. You need to know how the printer nic is setup, whether it's hardcoded to a speed and duplex or is it set as auto/auto .
