port-asic stats enqueue, different firmware versions, different output?

Ton V Engelen

Hi, all.

i hope someone can explain whats going wrong here. Or maybe i m doing something wrong?

As i am checking qos on our network, i ran into this.

I have 3750 switches and use Version 12.2(25)SEE2 and also Version 12.2(50)SE2 on a couple of 3750 switches.

The output on

sh platform port-asic stats enqueue port x asic y

is different in th firmware versions.

This seems correct to me. RX queue 2 and 3 and TX queue 0-3 have incrementing counters. Seems like input and output queueing is working

But now this, btw, the configuration is exactly the same on both switchports. Only difference is that the firmware version is different.

The question, why do i see all zero's here? I would expect to see counters != 0 on RX queue 2 and 3 and TX queue 0-3, not all zero's like this?

Like there is no traffic at all and no queueing at all? I m sure there is traffic going on.

Am i missing something with firmware version 12.2(50)SE2 ?

Hi Ton,

One reason why this command is not working can be because you are executing this from the CLI of the master switch and switch 3 is a member in the stack.

Can you try going to the CLI of switch 3 (session 3) and doing this output again?

Another reason could be the fact that we have swapped the port and asic numbers. A better command to avoid this confusion is "sh platform pm platform" which gives the asic and port number clearly.

interface gid gpn lpn asic hw-i flags sp dp bundle vlan mvid mac so_di i_vlan

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fa1/0/1   3   3   1   1    2       U  2  2  no     0    0    0   61443  0

Fa1/0/2   4   4   2   1    3       U  2  2  no     0    0    0   61444  0

By the way, you can see the port asic stats directly using the command "sh platform port-asic stat enqueue fa3/0/30"

Hi, Shashank

this could be very well the issue i m running in to. So I m going to check the items you mentioned and let you know the outcomes.

For now, thanks very much in advance!

ps. I guess this means that "show platform port-asic stat drop fa3/0/30" will work too like this

Again, i ll let you know the outcomes

Hi, Shashank

that was it, again thanks a lot.

ps. show platform port-asic stat drop fax/0/y works also.

Hi Ton,

Thanks for the reply. Great to know that it works!

Cheers,

Shashank

Hi again,  Shashank and all.

i found out some more and its exactly what i need  :-)

Example: i want to look at the queue' s of lets say Fa 3/0/30, and get the if-numbers and see its port 7 asic 0

I execute show platform port-asic stat enqueue port 7 asic 0, then i see all zeros in the queue's. (Like my first question was)

I now execute session 3

And then issue the same command

show platform port-asix stat enqueue port 7 asic 0

Here are my queue's. Cool!!

So i understand now that i always need to issue session x when issuing "show platform port-asix stat enqueue port x asic y" to get the desired output. (depending on the switchport i want to look at)

Plus this command also shows the input queueing, so this approach is my favorite.

Thanks again :-)

You ve been a BIG help here!
