port security on switch

Hi,

I have a question on the switch port security. A port on the security mode can allow upto 132 mac addresses that can be configured on that port. What exactly is that?

Is it the number of servers/pcs that can access that port from a particular vlan?

Thx

Shyam

Using the

switchport port-security maximum (1 - 132)

command you define the number of pcs that can access this port AT THE SAME TIME.

switchport port-security maximum 1

e.g. means that you have a port-security violation if a second mac-address is seen on the interface.

Depending your configuration the interface might shutdown if a violation occurs.
