PortChannel using different vendors Lan-to-Lan

Hi dear,

When configuring a port-channel L2L using different providers, is there any way to check the interface connectivity?

For example, we have two L2L links and each one is using transceivers to convert fiber to UTP on both Links. The problem is that when one of this two links comes down from providers side, the switch will not turn this interface down because transceiver is UP and the UTP side is UP but fiber(provider) side is down.

Is there some way tho chack L2 connectivity?

Thanks!

Hello @Thiago Almeida ,

when using LACP LACP frames are exchanged on each member link.

If one service provider link fails the switch will stop receiving LACP frames and will remove the affected link from the bundle even if the interfaces status is kept up/up by the transceiver.

Note: depending on the transport technology used by the SP Layer 2 protocol tunneling may need to be enabled on SP side both sites.

This is why I have suggested to use LACP

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hello @Thiago Almeida ,

you can use LACP that is standard based in a multi vendor environment.

It may need some tuning but it is better then making an unconditional bundle.

Hi @Giuseppe Larosa,

Thank you for reply!

The problem is that when one of this interface comes down from provider side, the Switch port still up up because it is connected directly to transceiver and so the switch still sent traffic.

Thank you for help.

This is always an issue when you using a media converter to convert from fiber to copper and vice versa. You need to setup a logical based alert and not physical. So, maybe what you can do is set up an IP SLA to ping from one site to other and so when one site can't reach the other, you get an alert. Have a look at this link for more info on how to set it up.
