Hi,
I am very new to Cisco routers, and i am having great difficulty in configuring an 877W.
With the help of a guide from the Cisco website, I did the basic configuration of the router using the blue terminal cable.
However when I restart the router, I get the “username” prompt but it does not recognise the username and password that I configured in the basic setup.
I would very much appreciate some help please.
Thanks
Dave

Hi David,
I am however wondering if you saved the configuration with the write mem command ?
Does it make more sense for you to use Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP), a pretty reasonable GUI application to help you with the configuration ?
See the information sheet on this product at; http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9422/index.html
Hope this helps

Hi Dave,
I don`t think i did save the configuration correctly. I tried to download the Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP), but i keep getting
"" The Webpage you requested is unavailable. Please revisit at a later time. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience"".
I will keep trying. Is the Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP) a replacement for the SDM software, which i was having trouble with??
Thanks again for your assistance.
Thanks
Dave.

Hi,
I did manage to download it eventually, thanks. How much configuration does the router require before you can use the Cisco Configuration Professional software.
Thanks
Dave.

Hi Dave,
If the router is with factory default settings, then you could connect an ethernet cable directly to one of the fe (fe0) interface and configure the IP address on the PC as 10.10.10.2/24 and gateway 10.10.10.1 The default userame password would be cisco/cisco . You will be prompted to change the username and password during the first login.
If you have already setup your router with the IP address, then these are the configuration on the router to get you started with Cisco CP:
1. User Credentials. Say you have a local username password setup with privilege 15
For example:
Router(config)# username test privilege 15 secret test123
2. Enable http or https:
Router(config)# ip http server
Router(config)#ip http authentication local
Router(config)#ip http secure-server
3. Enable login on VTY lines
Router(config)#line vty 0 4
Router(config-line)#login local
Router(config-line)#transport input telnet ssh
Router(config-line)#transport output telnet ssh
Router(config)#line vty 5 15
Router(config-line)#login local
Router(config-line)#transport input telnet ssh
Router(config-line)#transport output telnet ssh
Now on the PC on which the Router is reachable, you can now enter the IP address of the Router on Cisco CP Community screen along with the username and password and discover the device.
If you are using a PC with Win7, you would have to "right click" on the CCP Icon and choose "Run as Administrator" to launch the GUI.
Pls get back to me if you are facing any problems.
Thanks
Chaitra
