Hello everyone. I am new to this, so sorry in advance.
I took over a tech lab and I am trying to log into this switch and check the health of the switch. I am able to Telnet, but unfortunately they do not have the password and this is an old switch. I am trying to reset the password, so I can access the switch. I attempted to use the console port on the back and I am using putty. I am able to see the terminal but all the data is messed up and it does not give me an open to even log in. But when I telnet I can see Nexus 500 and Login.
In order to reset the password, I need to be able to use the terminal from the console port but all the data is messed up and I cannot do anything.
I know this is an old switch and we will probably be changing it, but I would still like to get into the switch.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
When attaching via the console port, make sure you have the correct setting on your laptop
9600 baud
8 data bits
No parity
1 stop bit

I used the settings and I am still getting the messed up data, for some reason when I serial in the terminal will be blank and if I press U rows of small strips of white data appear and go from left to right then right to left down the terminal.

Try different baud rate setting and test.

Switching it to 38400 worked. Thank you very much.
