Procedure to upgrade from SMI to EMI

Dear Guys,

I am a bit confused about  the procedure to upgrade a 3560 SMI to EMI.

I have heard about the upgrade kit ie.CD-3560-EMI= but havent done  this any time.

Kindly let me know the steps for doing this and also below are my quires.

1.Wht is this part number i.e is it a licence file or something else.

2.If this is a license file then do i have to replace the exiting smi image to EMI.

Hi,

It is all license based..  There are 2 options, one is IP Base image and the other one is IP Services image. To go from IP Base to IP Services, you need to purchase the licence key.It is very small file that you install on the switch to activate the image.

There are two software images for the Catalyst 3560 switches - the Standard Multilayer Software Image (SMI) and the Enhanced Multilayer Software Image (EMI).

Catalyst 3560 switches that were purchased with the SMI preinstalled (WS-C3560-24-SMI, WS-C3560-48-SMI and etc.,) are only authorized to be upgraded to the most recent SMI.

If an enhancement to the EMI is desired, a software upgrade kit must be purchased before an authorized EMI software download.

The part number for the EMI software upgrade is CD-3550-EMI= .

If the Catalyst 3550 was purchased with the EMI preinstalled (WS-C3560-24-EMI, WS-C3560-48-EMI, and WS-C3560-24PWR-EMI), or CD-3560-EMI= has been purchased for the switch, then the downloading of the most recent EMI is authorized.

All Catalyst 3560-12T and 3560-12G switches have been shipped with the EMI and are authorized to be upgraded to the most recent EMI.

Downloads of the SMI and EMI files will be monitored for adherence to this authorization.

Regarding upgrading procedure:

You can copy the image from the EMI switch to a tftp-server..
and from the tftp server to the SMI switch..
in a production environment you need to buy the upgrade!
