Question - Extracting .tar files within Flash (Switch:)

Hello Group,

I have a formatted flash on a Cisco 3560G and connected via console cable connection and have a user switch prompt being displayed. I have tried everything I can think of to get an elevated privileged EXEC mode prompt. Starting out with a fresh formatted Flash I am wanting to upload an IOS .tar file to Flash and then extract/uncompress the IOS .tar file right within Flash so that it creates a directory with the .bin file and the html directory within that main directory within Flash. When I try to use the archive and extract commands I always get the error "Unknown cmd: archive". What is it that I am missing or doing wrong?

Thank you,

Doug

Is the switch in ROMMON?

Unsure on how to answer... I am new to Cisco products and am unfamiliar with "ROMMON".

The Flash has been formatted and boots up showing a "Switch" prompt without a pound symbol.

What does "ROMMON" mean or stand for? is it an abbreviation for something?

What is it what does ROMMON do?

How do I tell when I am in "ROMMON"?

 - Post the complete (current) boot sequence, preferably in 'direct ascii' output.

Please excuse my lack of knowledge on the Cisco technical terms I am new to this and learning. I am really unsure what exactly you are asking for regarding boot sequence and direct ascii output. The flash has been formatted and I copied an IOS .tar file to flash after formatting it. When I power up the switch the console shows the "Switch" prompt. My understanding is no pound symbol to the right mean 'user' mode and a pound symbol to the right means privilege EXEC mode. All the documentation I have read so far about extracting .tar files states to be in privilege mode to run it. How do I change to privilege EXEC mode when the switch does not boot to a IOS .bin file?

Just checking back with the group, can anyone help me with this?

Leo L I did some research on "ROMMON" and have a better understanding. At the time I was working with trying to uncompress the .tar file and typing up my original post I was in "ROMMON" mode with a Switch Prompt. But only at a user level as there was no pound symbol. I was not able to get into privilege mode with a switch prompt, still haven't.

Marce1000, if you would be so kind as to provide me with how to go about gathering the complete boot sequence information you asked for I would gladly try to obtain it for you. Please let me know. Thank you.
