[Question] SFP-10G-SR and MMF OM2 cable

Hello,

we are looking to replace our old Procurve 3548 and 5406 switches with new C9200L-24T-4X-E switches.

I am totally confused when I figure out the product specification about the SFP-10GB-SR MMF device. We still have an old MM fibre with OM2 cable. When I check the specs from HERE there is support listed for OM2 cables up to 80m.

On the transeiver compatibility matrix HERE there are only OM3 and OM4 listed.

I don´t know which statement is right... Hope an expert could help to solve this riddle

Best regards

Hubsi

Hi,

OM2 Fiber should work just fine with SFP-10GB-SR as long as your distance is less than 80 meters.

before we upgraded to OM3/4 we had OM2 and was tested I remember correctly it was worked

Modal badwitdth 500 (OM2) - 82M max

Again Some models have different requirements - this required to be tested on new models with OM2 - technically should work as expected.

Thank you for your fast answers. I still don´t understand why OM1 and OM2 aren´t listed at the compatibility matrix. Are they to old to be still interessting for companies?

Our OM2 cable is 60 meters long. In this case all requirements fulfilled???
