Quick OSPF auth question

All,

Do we need to enable authentication for passive interfaces in OSPF? I don't see any reason to, as there won't be any peerings or even any LSA's going out the passive interfaces, just wanted to verify. I'm thinking more of a loopback interface for choosing router ID and such.

I have never done it but like you i cannot see why you would need to. If the interfaces are passive then no neigborships will be attempted and so the authentication will not come into play..
