Rapid-pvst still taking 30secs to converge

Matthew Lucas

Guys,

I'm a little confused here. I've set all my switches (mix of 3750X, 2960S & CG and 3560CG) to rapid-pvst, yet whenever I plug in a new device, it still takes 30 secs for the switch to start allowing communications. My understanding was that rapid-pvst is a variation on rstp, which should take 3 seconds to converge.

The syntax I've used is:

#spanning-tree mode rapid-pvst

Have I missed anything?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

As suggested above, you need to configure portfast. Access port is independant from the rest of Rapid STP features.

Hello

when you say "plug in a new device" do you mean into an access port? If so - Do you have portfast enabled?

Paul - yes, into an access port, and no, I don't have portfast enabled (that was intentional, but I'm open to suggestions).

Ok, fair enough. That solves that question, haha. I've got another issue which I'll start a new thread for too. Thanks very much guys.
