Hi all,

I would like to understand why the default seed metric for IS-IS is set to 0. A metric set to 0 would mean that a network is directly connected, doesn't it?

Thanks

Lorenzo

Hi

You are confusing metric with administrative distance.

Connected routes have an AD of 0 and do not carry a metric.

Yes Adam, you are right.

Anyhow, can you explain why the seed metric for IS-IS is set to 0 by default?

The reason it is left low for IS-IS is to force the administrator to set a value and be more granular. There is no technical reason that I know of, I personally think it's a great idea as defaults tend to lead to laziness.
