regarding port forwarding

Hi

Please let me know what is port forwarding. When do we use this. Static nat and port forwarding is same or is there any  diffrence.

Whether only routers will support this features or even switch also supports. Which series of routers and switches will support this feature.

port forwarding is static pat.
