Removed Cisco 3750 from stack

Hi Guys,

we have a stack with 5 Cisco 3750

We removed  Switch 1 ( needed for ohter purposes).

Now we have 4 switches in stack ( numbered 2,3,4,5).

What we need to do:

a) On the stack: remove switch 1 configuration - this can be done with command "no switch 1 provision". Correct?

     If we want we can renumber the stack to be ok ( 2 to 1 , 3 to 2, 4 to 3 and 5 to 4).

b) Switch 1 is now going to be  standalone but as all the stack config. The only way to remove it is to write erase?

Correct, unprovision the switch and renumber them.

How are your priorities setup as you may also need to adjust this to enforce the role of the master in the stack.

This is done on the running stack of 4 switches correct?

no switch 1 privision ws3750...

switch 2 renumber 1

switch 3 renumber 2

switch 4 renumber 3

switch 5 renumber 4

Priority is 15,12,8,6,4, so switch 2 will always be master.

How about switch 1 that is now standalone? Can I keep some port configuration and remove stack config ? Or the only way is to wr erase for him to be clean from stack configurations?

Just undo the stack configs

no switch 3 provision ws3750...

etc etc

Yes thats correct, just as Alex has stated....

Standalone switch

1) do 'show switch'
2) depending on the output you may want to renumber back to 1
3) after this - reload
4) then do the 'no switch 2 provision ws3750.... etc.. to clean up the config. Save config.

Current stack

5) do 'show switch'
6) renumber stacks :switch 2 renumber 1switch 3 renumber 2switch 4 renumber 3switch 5 renumber 4
Then reboot.
7) Then no switch X provision
reconfigure priorities if you had them before for master elections
8) save config (you may have to reboot to change the number of the switch - cant remember)

that should be it.

Something got wrong on stack.

After no switch 1 provision command and renumber 2 to 1 stack config clears up.

Maybe the no swith 1 provision ( was the master) should not be deleted. No?

I will put config from backup ( like from tftp) and tomorrow only renumber the 4 switches.

Number 1 is already ok off the stack.

Stack is now running with the old config that shows ports for 5 switches.

I think you should have followed the order of renumbering your stack first, then rebooting, change the priority if required, then do the no switch provisioning.

Sorry to hear it didn't go well. Try the stated method order instead of just unprovisioning switches from the stack, it could cause outage if we're not careful.

Renumber the old switch 1 to 7 or something, so you can unprovision after the renumbering is done.

Thanks. I think its only a matter of invert the steps. I agree with you. My bad..

First do the renumbering and priority. Reboot.

Then the "no provision for switch 1" that is no longer in stack.

I will do it tomorrow.

Please make sure you renumber switch 1 to something else like 7

After the reboot...

Then on the stack do
no switch 7 provision ws3750... (Otherwise you will wipe out the new switch 1 instead)
