Replace C3850 member switch in existing stack

We got the dead member in C3850 stack switches
Before add a new switch need to be done:

>>Upgrade or downgrade the switch with same version of stack members.

>>Check the license , it should be same to connect the stack.

>>Check the config-value , it should be same for allow.

I need your help Experts!
1. How to upgrade the IOS of new switch with same version of stack members?

2. How to upgrade license on a new switch with the same stack has?

3. Should be the configuration uploaded on the new switch before it will be added t existing stack?

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Andrey P.

assuming it's not the master, the license should get applied from the master and not bee needed to worry about.

do you have hard licenses, or smart licensing?

As for config, when it joins a stack it will get the config. Any config on it should get overwritten. One note is if it is not the same model# exactly, it may not carry over the config. We find this in out 9300 vs 9300UPoE switches.

Only other thing I can think of is switch#. Default is switch1 and if it joins a stack it will take the next free, so say it's a stack of 5 and you replace 4, it should take #4 as it is not in use.

Thank you Dustin!
I'll change the switch# and priority before join to stack!

Sincerely,

Andrey P.

From the show version you did, it looks like it's just the default base license, so you should be good.

ipbasek9 Smart License ipbasek9
None Subscription Smart License None

you can do a show license summary to verify what is set, but probably network essentials.

You can also see the command in the config like one of ours below.

FarA#show run | inc license
license boot level ipbasek9

We have smart licensing
So ... all those licensees will be uploaded from Stack Master to new member switch?

yup, the master is what pulls the licensing for all stack members.

Thank you Dustin!
You are the best!

You're Welcome.

Hope it all went smooth and uneventful.
