I have 2 Cisco Catalyst Switch 4500, i needed remove one from cluster for an RMA e now i need to add the new switch, but when i removeed the old from cluster the configuration on active switch change:
Configuration when both switch were on cluster:
switch virtual domain 20
switch mode virtual
mac-address use-virtual
redundancy
mode sso
!
module provision switch 1
chassis-type 70 base-mac XXXX.XXXX.XXXX
slot 1 slot-type 401 base-mac XXXX.XXXX.XXXX
slot 2 slot-type 400 base-mac YYYY.YYYY.YYYY
!
module provision switch 2
chassis-type 70 base-mac AAAA.AAAA.AAAA
slot 1 slot-type 401 base-mac AAAA.AAAA.AAAA
slot 2 slot-type 400 base-mac BBBB.BBBB.BBBB
Configuration on active switch after remove the standby switch on cluster:
switch virtual domain 20
switch mode virtual - was removed
mac-address use-virtual
!
redundancy - was removed
mode sso - was removed
!
module provision switch 1 - was removed
chassis-type 70 base-mac XXXX.XXXX.XXXX
slot 1 slot-type 401 base-mac XXXX.XXXX.XXXX
slot 2 slot-type 400 base-mac YYYY.YYYY.YYYY
!
module provision switch 2 - was removed
chassis-type 70 base-mac AAAA.AAAA.AAAA
slot 1 slot-type 401 base-mac AAAA.AAAA.AAAA
slot 2 slot-type 400 base-mac BBBB.BBBB.BBBB
So, my ask is, i need perform the comands again on switch active and convert again the switch for VSS mode before insert the new switch on cluster ? If yes, all configuration on switch in production is erased after i perform the comand "convert mode virtual"? Or i need only configure the new switch and convert him, so insert on cluster?
Below the show switch virtual on active switch at moment without the new switch yet:
sh switch virtual Switch Mode : Standalone Not in Virtual Switch mode due to: Domain ID is configured This implies an incomplete or failed Virtual Switch conversion process.

You Just need to setup the New switch in virtual mode and Join. There Will be down time as both switch Will reload.
There is a document for VSS replacement
