Hi all
Is there a replacement for Cat 6500
Thanks

Hi ,
I can give more details If you give more details like your chassis module and your actual need .
Few chassis and Linecards in 6500 series are already EOS / EOL and you can find replacement part in below Docs. But entire 6500 is not EOS or EOL. I guess, it will stay for few more years and AFIK cisco is not announced yet.

Depends on your requirement , you can upgrade your sup to Sup2T or chassis 6800 and nexus 7000.

Hi ,
1 ) upgrade to 40G connectivity ---> Below modules are 40 G module but you need to upgrade your sup to sup2T. you can find more details in below link.
WS-X6904-40G-2T | Cisco Catalyst 6900 Series 4-Port 40 Gigabit Ethernet Fiber Module with DFC4 |
WS-X6904-40G-2TXL | Cisco Catalyst 6900 Series 4-Port 40 Gigabit Ethernet Fiber Module with DFC4XL |
WS-X6904-40G-2T= | Cisco Catalyst 6900 Series 4-Port 40 Gigabit Ethernet Fiber Module with DFC4 Spare |
WS-X6904-40G-2TXL= | Cisco Catalyst 6900 Series 4-Port 40 Gigabit Ethernet Fiber Module with DFC4XL Spare |

2) Looking for a loop free solution . (optional) --- I guess, you wanted to avoid STP loop. In 6500 switch , you use VSS .
In nexus environment, you could use VPC , Fabricpath .

Hi
Thanks
Is there any differnec between DFC4XL and DFC4
11-30-2014 09:44 AM
Hi
Does it make sense 40 GB DFC4 or with
dfc4xl is better
Thank you

Hi ,
You can use DFC4XL . XL means , it has more memory and store more TCAM table .
Table 3. Feature Differences Between DFC4 and DFC4XL
Feature | DFC4 | DFC4XL |
IPv4 unicast/MPLS forwarding entries | 256K | 1024K |
IPv6 unicast/IPV4 multicast forwarding entries | 128K | 512K |
NetFlow entries | 512K | 1024K |
ACL and QoS TCAM size | 64K | 256K |

upgrade to 40G connectivity
IF you want to future-proof your investment, you should be looking towards 100 Gbps instead of 40 Gbps.
If you are indeed looking for 100 Gbps then you may want to look at 6807-X/6880-X.
Exactly what is this solution looking at? I've got a strange feeling this is for DC work. If this is indeed for DC work, then Catalyst 6500 may not be sufficient and you may need to look at Nexus family of switches.

Hi
What if nexus instead of 6807
Thanks

Hi
This is for core switch in the core distribution access layer
Thanks

Exactly what are the "clients"?
If you're talking about servers then Nexus is the way to go. If you're talking about PCs, VoIP, printers, etc, then 6807-X/6880-X and 6800IA switch is the perfect fit. With the 6807-X/6807-X and partner this as a 6800IA switch your core, distro and access layer will collapse into a single logical switch.

Hi
Collapsed modal means the core and distribution layer will be collapsed into one . Correct me if i am wrong . Is it recommended for a large network .
6807-X/6880-X and 6800IA , 6800ia is the higher end ?
I am sorry that i could not follow the below you wrote

Thanks a million

Yes and no.
It all boils down to your network and your network architect. Old school dictates the old dogma that the Core, Distro and Access has to be physically and logically separated. Works very well works in certain conditions (regardless of the size of your network), like in a DC with Nexus 7K/9K as core, 5K/6K as distro and 2K/3K as access.
I would deploy the collapsed network in an office environment. Your access switches, the 6800IA are all managed from and by the 6807-X/6880-X chassis and all decision-making process are done from and by the 6807-X/6880-X chassis. The 6800IA switches connect to the chassis.
By the way, I also forgot that the 6800IA is only 48-ports (PoE and non-PoE). In the next few weeks a new 8- and 12-port switch (with 1- or 10 Gbps uplink) will be released.

Hi
Which is the best Vpc or Vss ?
12-01-2014 12:42 AM
Hi ,
VSS - you can use VSS only on IOS devices like 6500,6800,4500 switches .
Most of the Nexus devices support VPC .
VPC supported devices - Nexus 7000,5000, 3000.
