Replacing the current catalyst 4507 to a new core switch ???

Dears,

we are about to modify our current network to support 10 G , our current core doesn't fit 

we are comparing between the folowing options

1.buying a new Cisco 4500X Core 

2.buying a Cisco nexus 5000 series

3.upgrading the current core sub 6LE to 8LE which will allow us to have a bandwidth of 48 Gbs per slot . we will have 3 empty slots 

Regardless of the price , i need your technical advice

Hi,

It depends what type of media (copper or fiber) you are connecting to the switch.

The 4500x and Nexus switches are mainly fiber switches.  You can convert fiber to copper but it maybe easier to upgrade your 4500 to sup-8e, put a 48 port 10/100/1000 card in it and have some room for future growth .

It's total depend on your requirement (depends on throughput/switching capacity, port density & etc).

We are not discuss about prices, just take example with reference to throughput & port density.

Option-1: Upgrade Sup 6LE to 8LE:

In this case you can increase throughput of your existing Switch capacity from 320G to 560G with onboard 4x10G ports. And you can use your all existing module with availability of 3 additional for future use.

Option-2: Buying new Cisco 4500X:

You can increase your switching capacity from 320G to 800G with option available of Fixed 16/32 10G SFP/SFP+ & 8x10G extension module.

You can not replace your exiting modular 4500 switch with 4500X with reference to port density. But you can use new 4500X for traffic forwarding decision, STP Root, gateway and etc.

Option-3: Buying new Nexus 5000:

You can increase your switching capacity from 320G to 1.44/2.56 Tbps different option Fixed & Modular 1-2 U & 1/10/40 G.
