Require to upgrade Cisco 3650 from Everest-16.06.06 -> Gibraltar-16.12.4. The 16.12 release note below list the step of upgrading process. Part of the process will remove the existing and new images.

Question : What is the process/steps of recovery in situation that this didn't go well and require to "roll-back" back to  original version 16.06.06.

Before starting the unpacking process, enter this command:

more flash:packages.conf | b for NOVA

Notice all the right-hand are pointing to 16.6.6?

Once the unpacking of 16.12.4 is complete, run the same command again and it should be pointing to 16.12.4.

However, if you execute the "dir" command again, the old packages.conf pointing to the 16.6.6 gets renamed to "packages.conf.00-" or something like that.

To roll back to 16.6.6, just rename that file from "packages.conf.00-" to "packages.conf" and reboot the switch.

Thanks Leo for the explanation.

Found a technote which searching more on packages.conf.00-
