Does anyone have a layman example of what a root bridge setup does (MST)? And what are the risks when not enabled (default)?

Thx.

assuming you have a looped topology, a root bridge will be the root of ur spanning tree topology.

so effectively it will teh switch where u are guaranteed to have both ports in forwarding state.

if you do not configure it, a root bridge will be elected based on Bridge ID.

the benefit of choosing it urself is that you dictate how spanning tree should be.
