Hello everyone,
I have a switch 2960 with 15 multicast groups (for video) and now I am configuring a router 2811 to send two multicast groups to another network.
But despite of there is no client sending join yet, the router is joinning in all multicast group, and because of that the router are not standing all the traffic.
Could someone imagine why the router is joinning in all multicast groups?
How could I choose what groups router will join?
Router Config:
ip multicast routing
ip pim bidir-enable
interface f0/0
description Conected to Multicast Source Network
ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0
ip pim sparse-dense-mode
Thanks.

Hello Andre,
No, you don't need an RP but why operate in sparse-dense without an RP? All groups without an RP defined will operate in dense mode. Which is okay but dense is not suitable for large network.
Where does f0/1 connect to? It looks like you are getting several group reports from 139.0.0.1 leading to the *,G. Is f0/1 where the receivers are?

Hello,
Looks like sparse-dense mode with no RPs. Are any RPs configured? Could you please tell me what 139.0.1.1 is?

Ryan

Hello Ryan,
When I am using sparse-dense mode, do I need a rp?
I don´t who is 139.0.1.1...
Thanks.

Ryan,
the interface F0/1 is connected to my switch (2960).
I din´t discovery who is 139.0.0.1 yet...Do you have any sugestion to locate that IP?
11-05-2012 06:38 AM
Hello Ryan,
We found the device that are sending join request (139.0.0.1).
Well, we can´t stop that device but we need control what groups the router will join.
All devices are in the same VLAN.
Do you have any sugestion?
