Senthil,

It seems that either your CF card is not inserted properly into your router, or it has been corrupted or damaged. Try removing the CF card and reseating it back into the router carefully but firmly. If this does not help then it is probable that either the filesystem on the FLASH was corrupted or the entire CF has failed and has to be physically replaced.

You can try to format your CF card in another router of the same or similar type using the privileged EXEC IOS command format flash: and then put back the IOS image on it. It may also be a good idea to simply insert it into a similar router after it has booted using its own CF card to see whether it is able to read your CF card.

The fact is that these CF cards do fail quite often and quite probably this happened also in your case.

Try to copy a new image into flash (tftpdnld/xmodem)

Try to xmodem the IOS directly into RAM (xmodem -r)

If this works, format the flash after the router boots up

Try a different CF card

If the above does not work, the chassis needs to be replaced

Try this if ALL ELSE mentioned above FAILS.

1. Copy the IOS temporarily from the TFTP server to the DRAM of the router using the command: xmodem -r

2. You can also speed things up by using the "-s data_rate" option.

3. Now once the IOS is loaded, upgrade the bootstrap to 12.4(13r)T6 using the command "upgrade rom-monitor file ".

Bootstrap version 12.4(13r)T6 allows the ISR to boot using USB. Take note that the command "boot system usbflash0:", particularly the "usbflashX:" is a hidden command but will work.
