Routing/Switching decision

If we link 2 switches using HSTP and we link 2 other switches using GEC, which will

1. Be faster

2. Have a smaller latency

And since we are using a Cat 6509 with Sup720 going to a Cat 3550, will L3 latency be such an issue?. Also can you explain the route once, switch after policy.

I thought if the first packet is routed then it will be switched there after and

then latency will not come play as such.

Please help.

Hi Friend,

Route once and switch many was the earlier version of MLS but with implementation of CEF which is there available on sup 720 and other models of switches even the first packet is switched in hardware cause CEF build both adjacency as well as fib table.

With a switch like sup 720 and 3550 you need not worry about L3 latency.
