Running HSRP on the same 3750 stack ...

Hi,

I have a 3750 stack and want to confirm if I can run HSRP on the stack to two different ASR routers for redundancy purposes ?

It looks like the below :-

   --------------------------------

   |     SW1          SW2  |

   |       3750 Stack        |

   |------------------------------- |

            |          |

            |          |

     -----------     ------------

    |    P     |   |    S      |

    |  ASR1 |   |  ASR2  |

    | ______|   |_______|

Cheers,

Hello Sanjay,

you don't need HSRP in this setup the switch stack provides L3 redundancy in its own way, in other words the SVI interface is defined on the stack master and if the master fails another switch is promoted master.

HSRP would provide consistency at MAC address layer, but also this can be achieved if you enable stack MAC address persistency.

see

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/release/12.2_58_se/configuration/guide/swstack.html#wp1206500

with MAC address persistency the new master will use the same MAC address used by previous master as HSRP would do.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Yes, 3750 stacks support HSRP.  If you intend the 3750 stack and the ASRs to be gateways for the same subnet, this would be a method to accomplish this.
