service-policy on L2 interface ?

Hello, I am applying a service-policy to mark interesting traffic as DSCP EF.

I have applied this service-policy to int gi1/0/3 on my WS-C2960X-48FPD-L which has the command 'mls qos' entered.

When I run the command 'sh policy-map interface gi1/0/3' I only get 0 packets output for all entries i.e. just blank results.

Is this because I have entered my service-policy on a layer 2 interface rather than a layer interface i.e. do I instead need to enter

the service-policy on the SVI for the VLAN that this interface belongs to ?

Thank you kindly.

Hi,

As I understand it, DSCP is applied at layer 3, and COS markings are applied at layer 2.

Applying this on your VLAN SVI is an option, and apply the service-policy in a outward direction.

Are you marking, and passing the traffic onto a provider? (I.e Managed MPLS provider), as bear in mind the DSCP value defined may be stripped once the packet leaves your network perimeter.
