Service Provider Connection - Uplink 10gigE Circuit

I have a new Internet Connection (my 6513 will be a Internet Router) using 10GigE connection.  The port is up and linking at 10Gig.  I have my ip and the other 'side's' ip address.  My question is what are the advantages disadvantages to the following:  I configure the 10gigE Inter with the ip address.  Or create a L3 SVI with the associated ip address.  My guess is create the L3 int. A little basic I know but it's not very clear in my mind.  I think both would work w/o issue.

Thanks!

Hello PacketZen,

using the routed interface approach STP plays no role

if you use an SVI, STP plays a role

The use of SVIs can be an advantage if:

multiple physical links exist in the same broadcast domain / IP subnet

or if you need multiple logical interfaces you can emulate router Vlan based subinterfaces using a L2 trunk + SVIs one for each logical interface

In your case using a routed interface is probably the best choice

Hope to help

Giuseppe
