Hello

We are a small ISP and using cisco Catalyst switches in an MDU Set up.

We are looking for some help to set up traffic policer on a 1 gig port. What we want to do is offer a 1 gig service but only guarantee 30megs of traffic up and down during peak times. More so as a best effort service. We have a 10gig uplink to our core. We are looking to do this to help balance traffic during peak times.

If device supports, you might have your policer in a policy which matches traffic using a timed based ACL.

And/or have your policer with a very generous burst allowance.  NB:  unsure the burst variant works as I believe it should.

Here is what we are thinking for a 250M Client on a port at 1 gig.

policy-map 250M

    police cir 250000000 bc 1000000 be 1000000    conform-action transmit     exceed-action drop     violate-action drop

s-map match-all Any
