service timestamp and NTP

Hi,

I would need best recommended configuration for service timestamp and NTP server in real time network ( both switches and routers).

Could anyone help ?

In a real time network where time is vital (stock markets/live news and info etc...), I'd recommend having dedicated NTP servers (atleast two - I've had good experience with linux) in a DMZ getting time from a reliable source e.g.pool.ntp.org which is resillient in that, there are a pool of servers. Then allowing NTP only to this DMZ to and from the core.

The majority of the time, I've see the core of the network be it 6500's, Nexus or other devices - two of them serving the master roles for all other network devices downstream. It is better to have authentication for this.

You can use the service timestamps log datetime localtime command to set your timestamps to be the same as your system time (from ntp) rather than 'uptime'
