SG300-20 All ports are configured as TRUNK instead of ACCESS

In the past on any Cisco switch I have worked with-  all ports have always been configured by default as ACCESS and have stayed that way.
Unless you wanted to create a VLAN trunk, then you had to manually change the port to be a TRUNK port.
What I am seeing now in the SG series switches after a factory default or firmware upgrade is that all ports are
configured to be TRUNK.
Is this normal? and should they be left this way versus changing them all manually to ACCESS?
I also have been setting Administrative Auto Smartport: to DISABLED.
I do not yet understand it and do not yet need it for any reason.

 - As you state you only need TRUNK for what it does , normal hosts/devices just need access (mode) ports.

Thanks for the reply but sorry you either didn't answer the question or I was not clear about the question.
The question is *why* are ALL the ports set to trunk by default out of the box?
I am used to ports being set to ACCESS out of the box/default.

Do I need to manually go back and set them all to ACCESS?
Or should I just leave them how they are?

Thanks.
