Slow response - 4500

Hi

I got 4500 Switch with 24 port Ethernet module 10/100/1000 and One SFP module. Port Gi 1/0/1 - 18 server's are connected.  Two user switches 2960 is connected as a trunk to 4500.

User VLAN 10

Server VLAN 20

SW1 - 2960 - user switch

SW2 - 2960 - user switch

Copying File from User PC to server is slow - user connected to SW1 and Server on 4500

Server has got 1GB Nic Card with proper drivers, switchport is configured as speed 1000 ; duplex full

User PC Nic 100 and SW1 port is configured as speed - auto and duplex - auto

Keeping above equation in consideration ; how much time it should take to copy 1GB of data from PC to server or vice-versa

cheers

Keven

On the user pc nic is it set as auto ?   If the switch is set as auto and the pc nic is set as 100/full  then that is a speed/duplex mismatch and it will make it slow as death transferring files .  PC  nic and switchport setting must match   , make them both auto/auto  .   You can check on the switch the pc is attached to if you do a show int status for the port if it shows as 100/half  then it is mismatched.   Also check for any kind of link errors between the switches and check the server and the switch settings they must match also.

Hi,

You are facing problem from SW1 only or from both switches?

You need to make sure the port settings (duplex, speed) should be same on both ends like switch 4500 - Port Gi 1/0/1 and SW1 port where user connected.
Also please check the cable quality, if it is old and replace with new ca5 or 6.
Clear arp, mac-a, ip cache and counters on the 4500 switch

After set right the port settings at both ends and changed cable with new one. If still you are facing slowness then check the 4500 switch uptime if it is too old then have a schedule to reboot once.

To copy 1GB from user system to server the time takes depends on the system and server performance say processor and ram like that...

Please rate if this helps you...
