some problems when simu in the PT for ospf

daotiansi

Level 1

I made a ospf network sime project in the Packet Tracer 5.3. It seemed everything went well, except the Router 1.1.1.2 couldn't learn the connected route (192.168.2.1/24) advised by the Router 1.1.1.4 . That means the ospf protocol could't deliver the route(192.168.2.1/24) across the Area 0.

I make the simu file as an attachment int he post, who can help me ?

Thankyou .

Hi,

I opened your file with PT 5.3 but it is empty.

Cna you make a screenshot of topology and send the running of the gears.

Regards.

Alain.

Hi cadetalain
Thank you very much for checking my file in the PT. Maybe there is something wrong happened when I zipped the simu file. And  now, I rezipped my simu file, and attached it again. If you can't see the topology , you can drag the scroll bars to move the screen.

However, if you can't see it either, I'll put the topology and running info into this post.
Regards!

From router 1.1.1.2 I was able to see the routes and ping 192.168.2.1.  I do have to wait for the network to converge though.

Thank you for Jimmy & Alain!

From router 1.1.1.2 I wasn't able to see the routes and ping 192.168.2.1. I do  wait for minutes to converge though, but results didn't change.

It's obvious to see that I lost 2 routes

O E2 192.168.2.0/24 [110/20] via 172.168.2.1, 00:00:15, GigabitEthernet4/0
O E2 30.30.30.0 [110/20] via 172.168.2.1, 00:00:15, GigabitEthernet4/0

who can tell me what happened?

By the way, how long have you spent converging the network? did you think there's something wrong with my PT software?

It took less than 1 minute for all adjacencies to come up and the routing tables be converged.

I really don't see what is happening , you should try this file on another PC to see if result is the same.

I changed my PC, and redownloaded the software, but nothing changed.

I still can't connect 1.1.1.2 to 192.168.2.2 .

do you use the PT with the default configuration, and can you give me the net link for the PT software which you use?

Hi,

You can get the latest PT software from the NetAcad site once you're logged in.

This is version 5.3.2 and I left default config.

Reagrds.

Hi,Alain

Fantastic!!!! After I update the software version from 5.3.0 to 5.3.2 and simu the file again, I did get the same result as Jimmy's.

That means I can ping 192.168.2.1 from Router 1.1.1.2.

But one new question occured,

from the route-table of 1.1.1.2, I get the infomation listed below:

Router#show ip rou
Codes: C - connected, S - static, I - IGRP, R - RIP, M - mobile, B - BGP
D - EIGRP, EX - EIGRP external, O - OSPF, IA - OSPF inter area
       N1 - OSPF NSSA external type 1, N2 - OSPF NSSA external type 2
       E1 - OSPF external type 1, E2 - OSPF external type 2, E - EGP
       i - IS-IS, L1 - IS-IS level-1, L2 - IS-IS level-2, ia - IS-IS inter area
       * - candidate default, U - per-user static route, o - ODR
P - periodic downloaded static route

After reading this, I found that I can't get the route of 192.168.1.1/24 advised by Router 1.1.1.3

Is there any problem I still have when config the Routers?

Thank you very much for wasting time to solve such little questions .

Regards.

Hi,

Seems you've got a big problem with PT because when we do a sh ip ro xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx for your O E2 routes they appear as intra Area but they should appear as Extern 2 routes. Furthermore when we do sh ip protocols they have their own rid as gateway but they shouldn't.

You've got the same problem with each redistributed route they all pass through area 0 but never make it into the other area although they appear as external in the ospf database of each router.

I  really think this is a big PT bug you're having.

Regards.

Alain.
