I have a hub and spoke network topology, the following switch is connected to the central switch (root bridge) via the port Gi1/0/49 (root port) and all other ports are access port and connected to end devices. I would like to know why the ports Gi1/0/10,42,43,44 are Desg (designated).

No even access port can be designated port.

The sw are

Root SW have all port as root port

Other non-Root SW have one root port and one or more Designated ports and/or block Port

And since your SW is not root SW then it normal that all port other than Root port is designated port.

I thought that designated ports are only the trunk ports.

No even access port can be designated port.
