Squeeze Bootflash: command

What is the impact of the Squeeze Bootflash: command, beyond the obvious recovery of space?  Is this going to take so much resources that it will impact the flow of traffic on the switch, or is this safe to perform during production usage?

It will delete the deleted files and can be run during production.
