Stacking 3750 12port and 24 port switch "version mismatch'' Issue

Hi

Im facing an issue with stacking two 3750, one 3750-24 port switch and 3750-12 port switches.  I have connected

"sw1-stack1 --> sw2-stack2" and

"sw1-stack2 -->swi2-stack1"

but when powered on the switches, 3750-12port switch is not adding to stack and it showing "version mismatch" in sh switch output from the console of 3750-24port switch. also im not able to console directly to that switch (3750-12port).

I have verified im having same IOS on both switches.

flash:/update/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE5/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin"

flash:/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE5/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin"

Kindly help to resolve the issue

Thanks in Advance

Shanil

Hi Shanil,

Could you post the following outputs please:

1. show version

2. show platform stack-manager all

Could you also specify the exact model of the switches that are being stacked together?

Regards,

Aninda

Thank you Aninda.

i have the below model and i will get back to you with the show outputs at the earliest

WS-C3750X-12S-S

WS-C3750X-24T-S

is there any chance for stack protocol version micmatch even if we have same IOS?

Thanks

Shanil

Dear Aninda,

There is software version mismatch in switches, please find below.  how can i resolve this issue by connecting from the stack itself and without removing the switches.

Hi Kumar,

Switches with the same major version number but a different minor version number are considered partially compatible. When you connect a partially compatible switch to a stack, the new switch might enter version-mismatch mode and not join the stack as a functional member. The current state in this case is also stack protocol versions(minor verson of the member switch is different from the master switch) is differed.

Mismatched or incompatible software license levels might prevent a Catalyst 3750 switch from joining a stack.

Plz check your switches enabled license orelase post the below commands.

show licese all

show version

Regards,

Amir

Here issue is ios version
Mismatch. Is there any way to upgrade member switch image from master by retaining the stack. I think the auto upgrade is not hapoening in my case here

Thanks
Shanil

Since the IOS both are same in both of the switches, auto upgrade is not an issue here.

I've requested you to check with the licese part on both the switches.

The above logs clearly depict that the problem is stack protocol versions only.

Hi Amir,

Actually the IOS versions are not same, from the logs see the SW versions are different this may cause the stack protocol mismatch

Switch Ports Model SW Version SW Image

------ ----- ----- ---------- ----------

* 1 30 WS-C3750X-24   12.2(55)SE5   C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M

2 0 WS-C3750X-12S     12.2(58)SE2     C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M

how can i upgrade the ios by connecting itself in teh stack?

Regards

Shanil

Dear Kumar,

You can upgrade by the below steps.

Copy the Master IOS to the slave switch internally. this can be possible by,

copy flash:  flash2:

Flash or flash 1 is belongs to master switch's flash and flash2 would be denoting to slave switch.

Once upgradation done, you can verfy the flash checksum by "verify flash2:/md5 IOS file name"

Then set the boot variable by using

boot system switch all flash: command

Regards,

Amir

Thank you amir. I will try this

I have disconnected stack and upgrdaed the member switch to the same IOS. and issue resolved.

Thanks
