Hello,
Is it supported to build a Virtual Stack between a C9500-40X and C9500-16X?
Or is it only supported between identical boxes(C9500-40X and C9500-40X)?

Martin

Hello Martin,
You are correct. You must use the same model in order for stackwise virtual to work. It might let you configure it and bring up the stack but you are likely to run into some strange behavior.
"All the switches in a Cisco StackWise Virtual solution must be of the same switch model."
Hope that helps!

Hello,
When configuring StackWiseVirtual links (SVLs) on 9500-40X and C9500-16X models of the Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series Switches, note that you cannot create SVLs on any of the network modules.
4x10G breakout cables are not supported with SVLs.
When deploying Cisco StackWise Virtual, ensure that VLAN ID 4094 is not used anywhere on the network. All inter-chassis system control communication between stack members is carried over the reserved VLAN ID 4094 from the global range.
The dual active and StackWise Virtual link configuration must be performed manually and the device should be rebooted for the configuration changes to take effect.
Only Cisco Transceiver Modules are supported.

Hello,
Thanks for the fast reply.
So i think, the answer is NO.
All the switches in a Cisco StackWise Virtual solution must be of the same switch model.

It can be done, but not able to use full capacity.

SVL is supported on the uplink module since 16.11X and 16.12.X
combinations of fixed and uplink-module-ports are not allowed!
When configuring SVLs on Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series Switches with C9500-NM-2Q (2x40G), you cannot use a combination of fixed downlink and modular uplink ports. SVLs should have the same speed on each member. The 40G ports on a C9500-NM-2Q cannot be combined with the downlink ports on a switch as they have different speeds.

As per my understanding StackWise virtual works on different models.
But if you look at redundancy and design point of view, you looking redundancy for the ports to support end devices- in this case one of C9500-40X fails, 16X not able to accommodate full capacity

hello,
i know, that the 16 port-chassis can not accommodate the full capacity of ports from the 40-Port. But we do already have those two switches, and i have to find out, if it is supported to implement Stackwise virtual between those two switches.
I think, that it would work, but i have to clarify, if it is a supported solution.
And for my understanding, the following means, that it is NOT supported:
Prerequisites for Cisco StackWise Virtual:
All the switches in a Cisco StackWise Virtual solution must be of the same switch model.

Hi Experts,
Kindly share your best practice for below case.
I have 1 C9500-16X and 1 C9500-24y4c-A switch , can i make a switch virtual stacking between them.
