On a 4500 switch, it was seen that with only one power supply running, the status led on both supervisors was amber. and it turned green only when both supplies were turned on. Why is it so and is it normal?
thanks in advance.

It is not because you have insufficient power to the system. It is way to tell you that you do not have have redundancy, because you only have one power supply in the system. That is why when you insert the second one the light goes green (redundant PSU)

Because the supervisor is the monitor for the whole system so if it sees a problem with the supervisor , cards , power or other it will light an amber light to indicate there is a problem . It is normal if a power supply is off but inserted into the chassis.

thanks glen. but what is issue does the supervisor see which forces it to have both supervisors led as amber when only one supply is operational.
this is a new switch just loaded off the carton.
I'am trying to understand the possibilities of its cause, is it because the power is considered insufficient or so.
