STP problems?

Hello,

we have some problems with packet lost on monitoring of "non used" devices in network. non used means it is not used to internet acces just stand by.

On 1 core sw i found this while i enable debug for spaning tree

STP: VLAN0050 heard root 28722-0cf5.a4ed.f980 on Gi1/0/23
STP: VLAN0030 heard root 32798-0cf5.a4ed.f980 on Gi1/0/23
STP: VLAN0050 heard root 28722-0026.5298.c480 on Gi1/1/3
STP: VLAN0133 heard root 32901-0026.5298.c480 on Gi1/1/3
STP: VLAN0050 heard root 28722-0024.50e6.1a00 on Gi1/0/24
STP: VLAN1800 heard root 34568-0024.50e6.1a00 on Gi1/0/24
STP: VLAN0840 heard root 33608-0027.0d9c.e440 on Gi1/1/3
STP: VLAN0099 heard root 32867-0027.0d9c.e440 on Gi1/1/3

(this SW is not a root switch. The root swith is connected throught portchannel100 for vlan 50 and 30)

there are 10ths of lines per second.

But if i us show spanning-tree root, it shows always the right root ports.

On other switches connected to this sw that i have this debug messages i have this messages in log:

Returning spanning tree port stats: GigabitEthernet0/6 (46C947C)
Returning spanning tree port stats: GigabitEthernet0/7 (46C9310)
Returning spanning tree port stats: GigabitEthernet0/8 (46C91A4)
Returning spanning tree port stats: GigabitEthernet0/6 (46C947C)
Returning spanning tree port stats: GigabitEthernet0/7 (46C9310)
Returning spanning tree port stats: GigabitEthernet0/8 (46C91A4)

Have you any ide what is happening? There is no rootchange or topology change.

Hi -

Can you post the following:

  1. Exact debug command(s) you are using
  2. Output for "show spanning-tree vlan 30 detail"
  3. Output for "show spanning-tree vlan 50 detail"
  4. Output for "show spanning-tree summary

Everything look ok.

Can you explain what is mean STP: VLAN0099 heard root  ?

And why am I receiving on one sw 20 log messages /sec with this message?

Thank you

Hi -
