Hi Team,

Can any one clarify what is "Stp-edge port enable" feature in HP switch and whether it will disable stp features.

Hi,

Edge port config does not disable STP. An edge port is like port fast in Cisco.  It is used on access ports facing end devices.

here is more info:

Hi,

I agree with Mr @Reza Sharifi, Edge port is same like as Cisco Switch port fast.

A port is an edge port when it is directly connected to the user terminal or server, instead of any other switches or shared network segments. The edge port will not cause a loop upon network topology changes. Accordingly, the user can configure a port as an edge port, so that it can transit to forwarding state fast.

Thanks alot for the information @Deepak Kumar and @Reza Sharifi

As in HP switch GLobaly stp bpdu-protection command is configured and the same switch is connected to another when ever we are removing or re-plugging any cable we can able to see topology change notification as well one of the port which is connected to the router is going down state (reason Bpdu packet received).

Can any one suggest on the above.

Hi,

BPDU protection only works with edge switch port and a security feature designed to protect the active STP topology by preventing spoofed BPDU packets from entering the STP domain. In a typical implementation, BPDU protection would be applied to edge ports connected to end user devices that do not run STP. If STP BPDU packets are received on a protected port, the feature will disable that port and alert the network manager via an SNMP trap as shown in BPDU protection enabled at the network edge.

I think a port which is connected to the router is not configured as an edge port. I am recommended to you to read some guidelines before implementing the BPDU protection feature.
