Subnetting

Hi All,
Just a quick one, I am little bit confused with the following subnetting question.

192.168.8.33/23

Need to calculate the following:

No of Hosts:
No of subnets:
Network ID:
Subnet mask:

Actually they asked me in an interview.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi,

Number of hosts: 32-23=9 so 2exp9-2=510

Number of subnets= 2 class C subnets which are 192,168,8,0 and 192,168,9,0

Network id= 192.168.8.0

subnet mask= 255.255.254.0

Hi

This is a supernet as the prefix length is less than the class so it represents the 2  class C networks because 24 minus 23 is 1 so 2 exp1 is 2

Hi,

As of my knowledge. Two networks are deteremined like this way.

As 1 bit is used for supernetting. 2 power 1 = 2. So we have two subnets consisting of 510 hosts.

Subnets range:

192.168.0.0 - 192.168.1.255

192.168.2.0-  192.168.3.255

192.168.4.0 - 192.168.5.255

192.168.6.0 - 192.168.7.255

192.168.8.0 - 192.168.9.255

192.168.10.0 - 192.168.11.255....

Since this 192.168.8.33/23 is the given address it falls in the range : 192.168.8.0 - 192.168.9.255..
