Supervisor Engine 8 Not Supported

Hi All,

Recently our customer has bought a new supervisor engine 8 for their catalyst 4507R-E chassis to replace the current supervisor engine 6l-e. The problem is when ever the chassis reload with the new supervisor engine 8, it appears a message stating some sort that this type of chassis is not supported by this supervisor engine thus the supervisor will shut down. When refer to the link http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/hardware/configuration/notes/OL_29676.html it stated there ^1.The Cisco Catalyst 4507R-E Switch supports Supervisor Engine 8-E only on chassis that have hardware revision 2.0 or higher. Contact your Cisco customer service representative for more information. So then I have issued the show idprom chassis.

Are you using IOS-XE 3.7.0E?

Hi Leo,

During the ordering time, it was 3.3.1XO. I didn't managed to console the supervisor engine since it will keep reloading when the message stating chassis is not supported appears.

I think you need to upgrade the IOS-XE to 3.7.0E to be able to enable this feature. 

Another thing, the Release Notes firmly states you need to upgrade the Bootstrap to SG5 in order to load 3.7.0E.  

You can do this in just one reload with this process:  Upgrading the Supervisor Engine ROMMON with Telnet

Thank you for pointing out the IOS version. I've managed to find the information at http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/ol-37xe-4500e.html. The supervisor engine was ordered before the IOS 3.7.0E was released at Dec 10, 2014.
