Hi,

There are some connection issue between the server and the switch port. I would like to know whether can investigate it from the switch port level.

Apart from checking the interface status, can we enable the logging for a particular switch port? Therefore, I can know when the port when down.

How long the log can be kept inside the switch?

Hello Swee,

You can enable logging of event-status either globally or per interface, see this:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/12.2/25sg/command/reference/int_sess.html#wp2089249

How long you can save the logs depends on how frequently switch has to log message, you can set the number of entries a switch can keep, see this:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/12_3t/12_3t4/feature/guide/gtconlog.html#wp108699

Regards,

Pulkit
