Switch/Router Decision_Confusion?

I have been tasked with setting up a network, internal only, no internet. Between two points. Running on fibre. There will be a requirement for 2 separate networks going to the same place. There will be approximately 50 users on each end. The 3750G-24TS-S or 48TS-S has been suggested. But I am now getting more confused re how the users will connect. The network has fibre for the servers and connection between locations, but the users will be on Cat 5, does the 3750 also have RJ45 connections for the users? Can it route plus have the users hanging off of it? I keep thinking I should buy 2950 switches for the users as only the servers and the connecting 3750 at the other end would be on fibre. But it seems pretty expensive that way, 2 3750's, 2 or more 2950 48 port switches. Am I really out of the ballpark? Thanks in advance.

Hello,

The 3750G-24TS-S has 24 ethernet 10/100/1000 ports (RJ45) and 4 SFPs while the 3750G-48TS has 48 Ethernet 10/100/1000 (RJ45) ports and 4 SFP ports.

The 3750G-48TS should be adequate for your needs if you have 2 servers at each site that need fibre connectivity. You have 4 SFPs on it which you can use for fibred connections - 2 can be used for inter-site connectivity and 2 for your servers. If you have more than 2 servers, you might need to go for something like a WS-C3750G-12S-S.

Since you have 50 users at each end, you will need at least 2 switches at each location since the max number of ports you can get on these switches is 48. If you have more than 2 servers that require fibre connectivity at each site, you could possibly get a 3750G-48TS and a WS-C3750G-12S-S for each site.

Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

Paresh.

Hi

These are the different type of offings available with Cisco 3750 Switches..

Cisco Catalyst 3750 - 24TS

24 Ethernet 10/100 ports and 2 small form-factor pluggable (SFP) ports

Cisco Catalyst 3750 - 48TS

48 Ethernet 10/100 ports and 4 SFP ports

Cisco Catalyst 3750-24PS

24 Ethernet 10/100 ports with Power over Ethernet (PoE) and 2 SFP ports

Cisco Catalyst 3750-48PS

48 Ethernet 10/100 ports with PoE and 4 SFP ports

Cisco Catalyst 3750G-24T

24 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports

Cisco Catalyst 3750G-24TS

24 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports and 4 SFP ports; 1.5RU

Cisco Catalyst 3750G-24TS-1U

24 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports and 4 SFP ports; 1 RU

Cisco Catalyst 3750G-48TS

48 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports and 4 SFP ports

Cisco Catalyst 3750G-24PS

24 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports with PoE and 4 SFP ports

Cisco Catalyst 3750G-48PS

48 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports with PoE and 4 SFP ports

Cisco Catalyst 3750G-16TD

16 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports and 1 10 Gigabit Ethernet XENPAK port

Cisco Catalyst 3750G-12S

12 SFP ports

As you have already selected both 24-port TS and 48 port TS comes up with 4 SFP ports which you can make use for connecting the fiber connections..

For more info on the same you can very well refer the datasheets available in cisco site..
